3 Digital Marketing Trends to Pay Attention to this Holiday Season

The days of pushing elbow-to-elbow through the holiday masses and drifting through the aisles searching for that perfect gift are no longer necessary in the digital age. Instead, we can sit by the fire, sip on some hot cocoa, and do all of our shopping online. Retailers are always scrambling to capture the attention of consumers during the holidays. We’re looking forward to seeing how these three digital marketing trends play out over the holiday season.

Email is still the best way to reach holiday shoppers.
Shoppers are on the hunt for the best deals during the holidays. Retailers can reach their customer base by sending price reduction notifications and limited-time offers straight to their inboxes. Campaign Monitor lists their tips here for email marketing success during the biggest shopping season of the year.

Pinterest is a holiday shopping heaven for consumers.
Pinterest’s audience is notorious for being avid shoppers, and consumerism thrives within its archives of images and products. Recently, Pinterest added a “Shop” category, as well as “Shop our Picks” featuring current trends and picks from Pinterest staff. With 92 million holiday gift pins, and the channel’s powerful influence over consumer purchasing behavior, Pinterest is a worthwhile channel to invest in. This Pinterest infographic demonstrates the growing relationship between Pinterest and holiday shopping this year.

Customers are doubling as content-generators in ad campaigns.
Marketing is no longer a one-way street. Customers want something they can interact with, play with, and connect with. Sharing content over social channels that calls for action on the customer’s part is common, but why not take it a step farther and have consumers create your content for you?

Whole Foods’ is inspiring customers to post seasonal food photos, recipes, and stories on social media tagged with hashtag #sharethecheer. They are reposting their favorites here.

Urban Outfitters is gifting a Fuji Instax Printer, film, plus a $500 UO gift card, to the lucky winner who shares how they are using their photos to be festive this season.

Amazon is giving Instagram and Twitter users a chance to win $2,000 during their #AmazonHolidaySweepstakes for sharing a snapshot of how they are spending the holidays.

Building a digital holiday campaign that allows consumers to join the conversation will give your brand an authentic, human feel that people can connect with.
